Can I contact a former editor?

“Is it kosher to send a FB message to an editor I met a couple of years ago telling her she inspired me and giving her an example? Hope it didn’t seem dorky to her but she did goad me on at the time. I didn’t send a friend request.” S.I.

Actually, I think that’s the perfect way to handle the situation.  You’re not making her feel uncomfortable by pursuing a potentially awkward or unwanted relationship and you’re leaving the door open for future friending and more.  More than that, who doesn’t love to hear how inspiring they are? (hint, hint).  It’s a win/win situation.  You remind her of how she’s changed your life and also open the door to possibly work together in the future.  To be on the safe side though, I’d choose a subject line that reminds her of who you are and give a short intro in your note as well.
